" Love was never easy and if it was, it wasn't love."

PLOTLINE:

Aarna was still struggling with her marriage, when she came across an old diary of her recently deceased mother, Meera. While reading the diary, she discovered another side of her mother, a side about which her mother had never discussed with her.

The diary which was written about 30 years ago, when she was in her early twenties, Meera has talked about her first and only love Aditya. She has talked about how madly they have fallen for each other and, even though their relationship never saw the light of the day, she was unable to love anyone else with that same intensity.

Meera has also talked about her two most cherished friendships, Shikha and Rohan, how they always had her back whenever she needed them.

But, however, is Aarna prepared to face this truth about her mother? What did she do after she finished reading her mother’s diary? Read the book to find it out.

MY REVIEW:

“Meera : love more than allowed” is a story about love. This is a story that teaches us to fight for love. A quote in the book says, “Fight for love even when every nerve in your goddamn body says otherwise. Fight for it when all stand against it. Fight for it even when one of you wants out of it because they have suffered long enough. Fight for it when it no longer serves you or grows on you. And most importantly, fight for it even when you know that togetherness is just a reverie now.”

The author has weaved a beautiful story with a lot of emotions. The novel is in the form of a epistolary format, comprising of diary entries. The narrative style is smooth and fluid with a strong paraphrasing and is written in a very neat language. The vocabulary used by the author is remarkable. The story is also quite gripping and by the end of each page, the curiosity of what is going to happen in the next went on increasing. I finished the book in one go and after finishing it, I felt very alone and sad. This is what the story does to you, it makes you helpless.

Meera is a character with whom all the readers will be able to connect themselves. Her journey throughout the story is quite inspiring, her sacrifices, her pain, her relation with her daughter, how she raised her on her own without her father is worthy of attention. Other than Meera, I loved the characters of Shikha and Rohan as well.

One thing I felt that could have been better in this book is, if the author would have explored more about the character of Aditya. I wanted to know more about him. But, I think that the author wanted to focus more on the character of Meera and so she has not explored the character of Aditya.

Overall, this book was a good one time read. I would recommend everyone to give it a read at least once.
