BLURB:
Set in the year 2014, an experience of a young man in his late twenties who has lost every emotional war in his life. He blames himself and is constantly on edge. He is losing the last remaining shred of hope of finding true love, when he comes across a girl who changes everything. Suddenly, his entire world turns upside down and his happiness, that had once evaded him, knows no bounds.

But like every other aspect of his life, his relationship is twisted in more ways than one.

This time, however, he has to decide whether he was to be blamed? Or had there been something else ruining it all along?

MY REVIEW:
'What was my fault?' is an unrequited love story and talks about the social stigma associated with a certain set of people. The novel takes a different tack on the concepts of 'love' and 'relationships.'

The story has been narrated from the perspective of the main protagonist, Farhan, who is searching for an answer. He wants to know what was his fault to deserve such fate. Farhan has a past. He has failed in his previous relationships and thus has lost his interest to indulge into another. But, when he met Zoya during a family wedding, he couldn't stop himself from falling for her. Although initially, Zoya reciprocated to his love, later she turned her back on him. To learn about Farhan's past and what happened after Zoya rejected him, you need to read the book.

'What was my fault?' was not an usual love story that ends on a happy note. The story portrays the current picture of our society, how it drives one to make decisions according to it's acceptable norms. The writing style of the author was simple and neat. I liked the way he has presented the story in a simple yet beautiful way. I liked both the main characters of the book that is Farhan and Zoya, although in the end I lost respect for Zoya.

The narration was smooth and I finished the book in one sitting. I wish the author had extended the plot a little more and made it more engaging. The title of the novel was apt in relation to the plot of the story. The cover was very simple, which I think could have been made better.

'What was my fault?' was the debut novel of the author Aziz Padiwala and I would say that the author has done a pretty good job. Overall, it was a nice one time read. If one is looking for a romantic fiction with a twist, then this book would be a perfect read.
