Meet the beautiful people of the Circus, and the freaks who live in the Village next to them. Mangled, jangled, misunderstood, all find a place in the rich tapestry of this book.

Siamese twins separate to lose half a heart each and find snake-man and tiger-taming lovers. A man bitten by a crocodile becomes a God, and a Devadasi woos the entire countryside with her culinary artistry.

Fates intertwined lead sometimes to tragedy, sometimes happy summits of fame. A clown finds his place in Hollywood and mute animals break unspeakable chains. A twisted man falls in love with a mirror and a white man is unmade by the Indian sun.

In this book are tales for every season and every reason. Tales of human depravity that take innocent lives, and of a murderers’ the insanity that follows, an act of fitting revenge by nature, red in tooth and claw.

MY REVIEW:
'Circus Folk And Village Freaks' by the author Aparna Upadhayaya Sanyal is a collection of 18 short allegories written in a poetry form.

All the 18 stories are set in a village background. The book tells the tales of those peculiar 'folks' who are working in a circus after being deserted by their own families and society. Some of these tales are funny, some emotional, and others are distressing. But each of these stories is hard-hitting and gives the reader a message.

To know more about these tales, read the book.

The first thing that attracted me to this book is its beautiful cover, which is also one of the reasons why I accepted this book for review purposes. The next thing that I loved about this book is the beautiful artworks at the beginning of each chapter. The narrative style is impressive, especially the rhyming off all the poems. The author's vocabulary is quite notable, I learned many new words after reading this book.

All in all, 'Circus Folk and Village Freaks' was quite a delightful read for me. To be honest, I am a bit skeptical when it comes to reading poetry. But I am glad that I chose to read it. I will definitely recommend this book to all the poetry lovers as well as to the readers who are looking for some light yet interesting read!
