A nun commits suicide in front of thousands in Spain. In Australia, Siobhan Russo recognizes that nun as her mother, Denise Russo, who disappeared six years ago.

In the search of answers, Siobhan travels to the isolated convent where her mother once lived. Here she discovers Denise’s final confession, a book that details a heinous betrayal that left her crippled and mute, and Denise’s subsequent deal with the Devil to take revenge. In the desperate bargain Denise made with the Prince of Darkness, she wagered Siobhan’s soul.

As Siobhan discovers the fate of her soul, she learns that hidden within the pages of her mother’s confession is part of The Devil’s Prayer, an ancient text with the power to unleash apocalyptic horrors.

And now her mother’s enemies know Siobhan has it.

Can Siobhan escape an order of extremist monks determined to get the Prayer back? Can she save the world from its own destruction?

MY REVIEW:
'The Devil's Prayer' by Luke Gracias is a horror/historical fiction that is bound to give you chills from the very first page! It is based upon the 13th Century conspiracy between the Mongols and Papal Inquisition.

The novels start with a nun committing suicide in front of a whole lot of people during a festival in Spain. Siobhan Russo recognized the nun as her mother Denise Russo, who disappeared without notice six years ago. At her mother's wake, Siobhan meets Father Jakub who hands Siobhan her mother's bible along with a note asking her to come to Zamora immediately. After reaching Zamora, Siobhan went to the convent where Denise was living disguised as a nun. She got hold of a diary containing her mother's confession, explaining all the events which led to her sudden disappearance and also why she would need 'The Devil's Prayer'. To know what is 'The Devil's Prayer', you need to read the book!

'The Devil's Prayer' is a petrifying tale that gives you a spooky kind of feeling from the very beginning. The novel is divided into four parts- each part was full of suspense and surprises with the right amount of twist and turns. The story takes you to different places, and the author has beautifully described each destination. It's a unique kind of story which talks about supernatural phenomena, sorcery, and the devil. All these are enough to give you goosebumps!

The narration was fast-paced in the first two parts of the novel, and I couldn't sleep until I finished it! But, however, the 3rd and 4th part was slow-paced because there were a lot of historical and biblical references which left me confused as I couldn't understand much. I literally had to drag myself to finish the 3rd and 4th part! The book ends on a cliffhanger note and I am eagerly waiting for the sequel now!

'The Devil's Prayer' is a thrilling ride and I enjoyed reading this book. If you like reading horror/historical fiction, then this book is for you! But I must warn you that this book contains gruesome details and I would request faint-hearted people to stay away from it!
