MY RATING: 3.5/5

BLURB:
Beaten and brutally raped, her body is never found. However, the killers make one mistake. They leave a witness, a witness who has nothing to live for except revenge. And when he crosses the boundaries of time to make the guilty pay, a whole lot of dark characters come to light. There is Valentine, the superstar brand ambassador who sells anything for a price; there is Medici, a pharmaceutical company fraudulently manufacturing banned drugs; there is the perverted and sinister minded Dr Ranga and there is Este, the prostitute whose dark secret will blow up a daughter’s sanity.

As the story moves forward, a breathless suspense builds up: is there another murder waiting to happen? Will Police Inspector Dorab Silva be able to connect the clues to prevent another crime? Will the gods of greed be exposed finally?

Deeply unsettling, 'Hungry Gods' takes a hard look at the insatiable nature of lust for wealth and power.

MY REVIEW:
'Hungry Gods' by Richa Lakhera is a dark crime thriller which explores some of the hard-hitting truths of the real world. The book deals with some of the key issues such as rape, substance abuse, trafficking, child abuse and other related illegal activities of the real world.

The plot basically deals with a revenge drama. A mystery person who comes out to avenge his mother's murder and starts killing everyone who was involved in it. The book has been set across two time periods- one is in 1993, where the mystery person recalls how his mother was brutally raped in front of his own eyes, and the other being the present time where we get introduced to a whole lot of dark characters one by one as stated in the blurb.

Each and every character were equally involved in this mystery weaved by the author. However, it also created confusion as I found it difficult to keep a track on all of them. And, this also made the narration a little slow paced in the beginning.

The writing style of the author was one of the best part of this book. It was gripping and intense, with the right amount of twist and turns. The vocabulary of the author was extremely blunt and powerful. The book basically snaps us back into the world of reality from the world of fantasy. I kind of found the story somewhat similar to that of 'Sacred Games', because of all the relevant issues that has been addressed here.

The author also addresses another important topic in the book which is about 'Celebrity Endorsement'. Most of the celebrities endorse products they don't believe in just because of the high price they get paid. This is something which needs to be stopped. We, common people need to stop following this celebrities blindly.

All in all, 'Hungry Gods' is a dark crime thriller which is a tale about love, lust and deception. If one is a fan of crime thrillers/murder mysteries, then I would definitely recommend this book to them!
